#19 my new hobby

Recently, I bought a Cannon 40D, called Digital Single Lens Reflex, so taking picture becomes my new hobby. Before I bought the camera, I just thought a camera is only for memorizing. I remember when I was a child; my mother was so good at taking picture. At that time, the camera that my mother had was neither good nor electronically. However, the results of her skills were always wonderful. Her behavior when she tried to take was so professional. I have asked her why mom acted weirdly. Taking pictures is not a just thing, she said, it is a like art. I could not understand what she said, but after almost 20 years later, I can catch her point. I don’t like normal things anymore. I don’t know what makes me, but it is true that I want to feel more real experiences, and I dislike being similar with others. Therefore, I bought a heavy, dark, and ugly camera. However, the quality of results is unbelievable. The more I take pictures, the more I addict that. It is so interested for me. I realize the importance of the light. Maybe I have taken over 10,000 pictures with reducing the light or increasing the light for two weeks. The results of taking picture to use different way are totally different. It makes me crazier about that. I want to buy other lenses being able to make different effects after I go to the college with job. This hobby will be forever, and I want to see the amazing pictures showing my family with my children in the future.

#18 Plans that I made during spring break

I have mentioned about my plan before on blog. My plan was to study hard. However, I could not study very well. Actually, I did not study. Studying during on vacation on which everybody enjoys is too hard. People who become very famous or succeed usually say that if you enjoy the time with your friends, you will never succeed, and you will never rises above the crowd. I think I am a so lazy guy. I should think about my character. I am definitely a lazy person, and I certainly have positive thought. Now I realize I. ^^misunderstand meaning of lazy and optimistic. My lazy behavior was not optimistic behaviors. For example, I have a heavy homework until tomorrow. Lazy person maybe think it is too heavy for every students, so it is ok if I do not homework, and everyone will not do homework. On the other hand, optimistic person will think I can do my heavy homework, and it is not impossible. It is totally different situation. I was first situation person. I totally understand my character during vacation. I am not going to do that again. It will never happen until at least I graduate university here. ^^

#17 one thing that I realize from kids

Yesterday, I went a school to which kids go because a Korean woman who was my classmate last year asked a favor to take pictures for her son’s activities. Last Friday, I bought a new camera at Best buy. The camera is kind of DSLR, looks like heavy and can change lenses. It was a stuff that I really want to buy, so I had thought whether I buy or not for a year. After I bought the camera, I took over one thousand pictures maybe. Therefore, I said to the Korean woman it is really fun that I take pictures, so she asked the favor. The school is located in Valencia St. Her son’s event was like children’s activities exhibition. The title was variety cultures. Children’s ages are 5 to teenagers. They are very cute and beautiful. They showed us who were their parents and me African, Asian, west America behaviors. While I was taking pictures, I realized here is real America. It means that when I went to school, I used to do that, but I could not feel about other country culture because we who acted about other countries were all same country kids Korean. However, here in America live a lot of kinds of people. They who were showing events were Americans, Asians, Arabians, and African American kids. They seemed they do not care about different culture, country, and skin. They can be friend anyone. On the other hand, I thought while they are growing up, some kids will be changed their thought. It is sad. What things make people change? I really wondered about that all day.

#16 My stretegies making improve my english skills

Language is a thing that if I do not use it continuously, I forget. I have seen a lot of people that are not adapted to English because they do not think about English a long time. This spring break is not a long time, so I do not worry about forgetting. I decide I am going to improve my English in this small vacation. I have some strategies. The first one is to read a book. I have never finished reading whole story in English. I have almost 9 days. If I do not complete reading, I will develop my reading skills I hope. The second one is watching whole season Friends. I have seen before, but at that time, I watched with Korean subtitle. At this time, I am going to try to watch without subtitle until English and I become a friend. The last my strategy making to improve my English in spring vacation is using English. The English that I learn from a book and Friends have to use it. I live in American home stay now. Here are 5 native speakers. Therefore, I am going to show them my advanced English include pronunciation. Up to here, I wrote my hopes. I am going to try all of them.

#15 a plan for a spring break

I have a lot of places to which I want to travel. The most places that I want to visit are Las Vegas. The first reason is I have never seen before, and the second reason is I sometimes believe my gut feeling, so I want to see my feeling with black jack. However, now my position is a student that really wants to get great TOEFL score to enter the Fullerton College. I know current my score, and it is totally not enough to go to the college. Therefore, I planed I have to memorize 2000 vocabulary, to master grammar, and to listen English 3 hours every day until next TOEFL test. I think spring break is very good chance to study myself. I know this is crazy plan, and everybody will say this is impossible. I think so. I know I am a person who is really lazy guy. If I do not have any homework or tests, it is ten to one but I will not study by myself. I want to believe I used to do that. I want to speak fluently my emotion, I want to write smoothly my thought, I want to read easily funny novels, and I want to listen to show program without a hitch. I really consider traveling to Las Vegas.

#14 I am unique for my hometown

I am Korean, and I had lived in Kujea Island for 20 years which is located in South of South Korea. My hometown is surrounded by sea and mountain. In addition, people living my hometown use dialect. It means I have a little bit different character with capital people. When we living my hometown talk with other persons, we usually do not express too much. It looks very rude. I do not know why people do that, but we understand we are not rude. For example, I have never seen that my father says, “I love you,” to my mother. When he get some gifts accidentally, he usually says why did you do that, or you do not have to do that. He never says thank you, and he seems to try to not appeal his emotion. However, I totally understand his behavior because he always thinks his family more than himself. One day, my mother fainted just an hour for her working too hard while she was washing dishes. At that time, my father working at his workplace called her 5 times, but she did not answer, so he came home quickly for worried, and then he saw my mother lying on the couch. He carried on his back her, and he ran to hospital. I think he has deep emotion. When I had lived in Seoul, I was unique. Because of my blunt character everyone had misunderstand. However, I like to give impressed, and I try to pretend not to know favors I got. I am not a sweet candy, but I want to be a person like a indispensable tools.

#13 American 50th birthday party

Party culture in America is so interesting for me. In my country, we also usually have parties; for example, when we have the celebration of a baby’s first birthday, New Year’s Day, Korean Thanksgiving Day, or 60th birthday, but these are not like American style. I think if my country peoples here the word party, they usually imagine very huge events. However, I think American regard as just normal and casual things because they do often. I can see often they have parties in the parks on weekend. Therefore, when I heard my home stay mother would have a party in her best friend’s house yesterday, I thought maybe it’s just casual. I brought music CD for her, and I wrote a letter written I appreciate you. Then, I arrived at her best friend’s house, and then I opened the door. After that I was surprised because there were so many beautiful decorations. There were 50 chairs, desks, plates with flowers, and foods. I had impressed for an hour, and then I could eat foods. One thing I remember is when I played soccer with kids, someone called me, so I went there crowed people. Carol, my home stay mother, was reading my card I wrote yesterday. I was kind of embarrassed, but my feeling was so good because when Carol was reading a sentence, people said “oh~”, or “wow”. I think Carol got impressed because nobody gave her cards like my card. My card was not a simple, it was so long paragraph. I satisfied of my card and my idea. ^^ It was good day.

#12 The hope

If someone asks me what your favorite movie is, I can answer The Shaw Shank Redemption without hesitation. When I was middle school student, it was first watching. However, at that time I could not understand the meaning of the movie. After I got over 22, accidently I saw The Shaw Shank Redemption again. At that moment, I felt amazing emotions and got goose bumps. By that time, I was working at contracture building for assistance two years after I had finished Marine Corps for two years, like army. My brain was so complicating because I had not decided my future plane yet. In addition, I thought university to that everyone goes was not necessary for my goal, but real life was not same as my thought. My parents wanted me entering university, but I did not want it because the money for university was not mine. I was kind of embarrassed myself. By the time I felt, I saw a movie that tells me about the hope. They in the movie include main actor live in the Shaw Shank prison. The story is a main actor, called Andy Dufresne, does not forget his hope although he is in terrible prison. Above all, it was very impressed a scene that Andy says the hope is very important and makes us not to lose our way and destination even tough everybody says to do not wish the hope because it is very dangerous and never happen. I realized all my behavior that I had was all excuses. Now I sometimes watch The Shaw Shank Redemption when I feel lazy or depressed. After I see the movie, I can have a lot of stimulations. (It was so difficult to express expressions. There are many wrong worlds and sentences I think)

#11 My strategy improving writing

I planned to improve my writing skills for several ways before I take composition class. First, one of ways deveroping my writing skills is listening english. First of all, I should get rid of my korean thought when I write. I have bad habit to think out korean when I write. I realize to think korean is very bad to write english because native american do not understand my writing. They say me it is totally different between korean structure and english structure. Not only grammar but also thought are different. I totally understand they say, but thinking on english is very difficult for me. Therefore, I decided I have to watch american TV, radio, or movies. It will help me to think American way. Another way is to copy sentences and to use it from other books, news, or movies. I think the best way to write to use English is copy and repetition because I do not know about American expressions. Therefore, in my opinion, if I use other expressions enough, I will be able to write to use on my way. I think famous writer would read a lot other famous writer, and then they wrote their way. I try to read a lot, but it is too difficult to me. It takes a lot of time, and understanding is also hard when I read English books. However, I believe some day I write fluently on my way.

#10 one thing that I can not forget

If I have a chance to go back to time that I want, I will return to January 2002. It was one of my happiness times in my life. I have six friends as my family. My parents also know them so much. In January 2002, we decided to travel to go anywhere. Why we determined to go travel was we just graduated, and we were going to enter the different university each other. In meant we would not meet together for a long time. In addition, I got a mail that was written that I should go to army until May. After we discussed, we decided to go to the mountain that has rent houses. We saw picture houses in on the internet. We just thought there was nice place, and there were several leisure places. We took a bus, and we ran for 6 hours to go there with heavy luggage include lots of foods and beer. After 7 hours, we arrived there, and all we got impressed. There was amazing place. It was totally different with picture that we saw before we went there. Everywhere was white. Threes, land, houses, and even a man who is host were covered with snow. Three dogs followed a man owner with waving tails. There were all white dogs. It was so cute and looked like three moving little snowman. Snow piled up on the ground to thickness of ten centimeters. We took pictures so much, and it was enough to play around. I often see my picture that we took at that time. I can see a young and joyful boy. It was me, and I so much miss that time.

#9 very loud scream in my life

I remember the first loudest scream that I made in my life. It was in Lotte World in Korea. One day, my friends and I were spending very boring routine on Sunday. Suddenly one of my friends suggested going to exciting place, so we went to the Lotte world. There is the most scare riding called Gyro Drop. That is to drop in two seconds include people. Even though I did not ride; just looked at riding, it made me scare. Finally, my turn was getting close. One of my friends got off in a line. He gave up to ride. Now, I think it was ver funny situation, but at that time, it was so serious. We got on the strange machine, and that lifted up us very slow. Everybody did not notice when this situation end. Then, the machine stoped suddenly, and staied few minits. It felt three hours. While I was saying to my friends "hey, do you know how long...", we was dropped quick as lightning. During dropping I was screaming at the top of my voice. After that, I said "..do we stay..", and it was in pool voice. However, I felt very exciting and got worked up. It was fun. I can not forget it.

#8 A park that I like

There is the biggest river called Han River in my country. Around Han River, there are several parks. Especially, I used to go to a park called DouckSum Park. The reason is very simple. That was pretty close from my house. I remember there are so many people every day. First of all, after get off subway, I can see a big and wide river. In summer season, people enjoy water sports such as riding wakeboard and riding boat on the river. Just next the entrance, there are many people playing skateboarding. Their carriage is fantastic and nimble like a squirrel. Next those crowed people. I can see a grand sight. It is not natural, but this is a valuable park because Doucksum Park locates in middle of city in Seoul. Those trees and flowers are beautiful. Paths make me a different person. When I used to walk around a path with trees, I used to feel that I can do everything. Every morning, I used to run there. People that I met during jogging were very strong people. It means they are people that have a dream, and they were doing self discipline. Doucksum Park is not a natural and famous park. However, those things that I mentioned before always impressed me.

#7 An event that makes me changed my character

When I entered middle school, I was very shy guy. I saw a boy who was the best dancer in my school. I remember he was so selfish, but I thought he was a great guy because of his fantastic dancing skills. He danced like a robot. I always watched him while he was dancing. Therefore I decided I tried to be like him. I always practiced dancing with my friends after school. I sometimes hit the wall and slipped down on the flower, but it did not matter for me. Finally, we could take part in the dancing event. He who was the best dancer in my school also joined that event. Our team was very nervous because of him. However, his team was so awful because other members except him did not relate with him. He did only very well, so his team looked like separated team. The result was we won the game, and I realized the harmony is very important, and my shy character is a needless stuff in my life.

The first national treasure that was burned

Recently, it happened to a very big and huge event in my country. The Korea has the Soong Lea Moon, which is the first national treasure in Korea. It is the most valuable cultural heritage in my country. Also, The Soong Lea Moon is the oldest building, and it looks like a large castle. It was used a door that connected capital Seoul city to other cities. Even though we had a lot of wars, it had reserved for our descendants for six hundred years. However, in February 11, 2008 it was burned totally by mystery guy. Most people feel sad still now, and some people believe that unlucky is started after changing new president. The structure of the Soong Lea Moon was built very scientifically by our ancestor. However, I did not know that fact until my mother called me after it happened few days later. I was very freak out and nervous. At that time that it occurred, I had extremely bad dreams during sleep. That was horrible dreams. I remembered it was I participated in the terrible war, one of my friend died, and I saw a number of blood, and so on. The next day morning, I heard bad news that was one man whose wife is my home stay mother’s cousin was died at the Iraq by road bomb. He was 19 years old, and he just got married 6 months before. It was on Orange county newspaper. In addition, the next day a man whose wife is my home stay mother’s best friend who often visits my house was died by cancel. Also, a man who is friendly neighborhood got heart attack. Those things had a run of ill luck. My home stay mother cried three days. It was terrible. The following day, I took a call from my mother. She gave a massage about the first national treasure. People say the bad luck happen simultaneously, and good luck also happen at the same time. I believe that word. Some day everything is going to be all right.

#5 The best bridegroom of a mole

Once upon a time, one family of mole which is animal that dig the ground was living under the stone statue. The stone statue looked like very solidly. There was one maiden that did not get married in their family. Her parents always worried about her marriage, so they decided they look for a man that will be their daughter’s husband. At first, her parent went to see the sun that they thought the thing the strongest in the world. Then, they said they would appreciate it if the sun would be their daughter’s husband courteously. However, the sun said he was afraid of the cloud because he does not make his power the sunlight anymore when the cloud is coming, and he declined with thanks. Second, the parents looked for the cloud, and then they requested a same favor. However, the cloud said he afraid of the wind because he has to leave when the wind is coming, so he recommended the wind. Third, the parents looked for the wind, and they asked a same favor. However, the wind said he think the stone statue is the strongest thing in the world because although he blow very strongly, the stone statue stay without moving even waving. Lastly, they looked for the stone statue, and they said they want to be their son in law because you are the strongest in the world. However, the stone statue asked them what the most terrible thing is, so they said they thought you do not be afraid of anything. However, the stone statue said he was very afraid of a mole like you guys because he has to destroy when moles was digging the ground under him. After that they realized that they are the best in the world, and their daughter got married with a man mole.

#4 My first arrival to the United States

I remember I could not speak English before I came here. I had studied for 2 months before I left my country to go abroad to study. Going abroad is very hard decision to me because I do not have family, cousins, and even friends here. Therefore, when I arrived at the LA airport, I had to find a person who picks me up to my new home stay. She related with ALP I think at that time. I found her who was raising a paper written my name in English in front of gate, and then I forgot my English that I had learned for two months. I just remember a couple of word during we headed on my home stay in her car. She said she can speak three languages, so I just wanted to say I want to be like you because I just can speak my own language. However, I said I want to you. That was it. Then, we had very quiet silence, and a few minutes later, she talked I had mistakes. After that, I realized I had a big huge mistake, and I explained it. Finally, she understood, and she fixed my English. We laughed, and then I arrived my new home stay safely. After I experienced that situation, I was not nervous to meet home stay parents. Although I had studied English for two months, I was very nervous. However, I overcame to face Native American after only two minutes mistake. Then, I have been doing real English until now. I should be going to speak English more than before.

#3 Future plan

People always think about life of oneself. For example, "how is this problem getting better?", or "I should make my 10 year plan." something like that. I read article somewhere that is a person who make his or her detail plan have 75% of succeed . For instance, I am going to enter the A university to study something until 2008, so I have to get a degree until 2012, and then I must go to B company, but I am not going to continue that company more 3 years because I want to try my C business, and if I fail, I am going to writ resume to 5 company that is D,E,F, and so on. In addition, suprisingly, person in the 90% in the 75% is really possible to do their plan in their future. After I read this story, I decide to make a my future concret plan. First of all I have to decide when I enter the unversity, where I go, when I must graduate, where I go to the job, when I am going to get marry, how many babies I want, and so on. It is too much tasks and takes a lot of time. It is very hard decision. Above all, the first decision will be to decide my plan as soon as possible. everyone has a dream and goal. However, to do your dream is very difficult. Now, I am a middle of 20 years old. I am not late to start my new life. In this spring semester, I hope this semester is the best season in my 20's, and I will do my best.

#2 About my major

I don't have major yet, but I am goint to learn Business major. The reason why I choose the Business is it is easier than other major to find job for several reasons. First, Business base on any other jobs. For example, accounting, managing, creating something, or relating that I can learn in Business class are very useful in life. In addition, if I master thoses things, I can estabilish my own business. Second, money makes money. Business major gives us informatin how make profits. Also, I should handle the money. Therefore, most company want person who know about the money very well, so they are easy to get a job that they want. Above all, I am interested in Business major, and I am good at to deal money I think. I want to study Business major, and I will enter the college here.

#1 Describe yourself as a writer. How do you go about writing? What kinds of things do you like to write about? What do you dislike?

I like writing. Actually I like to read my writing especially my story. I've been writing my diary since before I came here , so It was since 2006. I sometimes read my journal. It descrives my chaging emotions. At the begining, my situation was I did not decided to go to abroad to study or not. It was extremly confused. After that, I decided to go to America, and I had interview for my information. Then, I came here, and it happened a lot such as losting my way things. Also, I had test TOEFL, and then I failed something like that. One thing that I regret is there are many empty dates. I was suppose to write everyday or once a week at least because I realize that I am encourage by my diary when I read it. Therefore, I like to write my story. However, it is hard to write other stories like a novel, a proffesional opinion, and a poet. These make me crazy becase I have to think carefully and considerably, so it takes a lot of time. However, I think if I read lots of books before, I will be easy to write any other stories because I have numerous informations in my brain. I want to be a good writer because I have to write a lot in the future, so I am going to read too much.

Have you thought that high school students in the future will need to go abroad to study English? I predict that students in the future will need to study in America if they want to succeed. Nowadays most people choose to study English. Most countries interact with each other, so we need English because that is used everywhere. I suggest you go to America. There are many advantages to study English because you have to use English a lot, you can listen to English plentifully, and you are able to enjoy study.
First, in America is in English. That means if you want to survive, you should use English, therefore you will improve your English skills. You lean English, but you can’t advance if you don’t use English every day. However, there are a lot of opportunities here. You can see English everywhere. If you shop in the store, you should ask where something is, or how much it is. Moreover, in the airport, it is so complicated, so you have asked where you are, or if they have heard someone announce from speaker. If you miss that, you will miss your airplane. In addition, people usually check the weather or news everyday. If you don’t want to get wet, you have to watch TV. In addition you can enjoy the movies, but there are none in your language. In newspapers, there are so many articles and information. If you can read, you will buy cheap stuff and eat cheaply. Not only places and Media, but also people use English. Your teacher gives you lots of homework in English, and test. You don’t have enough time to think in your language. Your friends also use English, so if you misunderstand their jokes, maybe they will laugh. That makes you stronger. Most importantly, when students first came to America, they usually need a lot of help, so they have no choice but to use English. Although you are shy, or you lack confidence, you will be able to help you improve.
Second, someone once said that the sparrow near a school sings the primer. This means that listening is the most important to learn language. You are in native country, so you can listen a lot, and learn faster for three reasons. First, you are able to listen to same word over again and again. It is like when a baby learns a language. They can memorize 100 words a day because they just listen for two years. Also, when people usually want to remember a song, they listen continuously until they can sing. Second, you are able to listen correctly. The tone decides whether it is a question or not, and whether it is negative and positive. Moreover, the sounds F and P, B and V, D and Th are hard to distinguish. You can not learn it by studying. You must listen, too. Third, you can think in English. If you do that, you can speak fluently and smoothly. Furthermore, you can accelerate your English skills.
Finally, you can enjoy study because there are many programs, learn culture, and can a lot of activity. In America, there are more than 3000 of schools, so you can choose your level easily and your favorite atmosphere. Also, you can concentrate your class because there are few students in a class, so it can make develop quality. Moreover, you can lean their culture. It means language is a part of culture, so if you understand their culture, you can expression in English. Furthermore, America is a multiracial nation, so you can learn a lot of culture, and then you will realize many things along with English. For example, in my country, I say “our mother”, American say “my mother”. That shows that different culture in addition, their history. Third reason is there are so many activities. American students usually learn extra spots. If you can join there, you will be able to teach a lot of body languages also relationship. Moreover, party is also their culture. It makes chance to meet new people, so you can talk a lot. That is free class. It means I don’t have to pat for them, and I can learn a lot of things. That is not study that is to be adapted to English.
In conclusion, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Language is not kind of study. If you want to learn a language, you should go to an English speaker’s country. If you want to speak English, you should go to America. There are good environment which you must use English in, you can listen every day even during dream, and you can enjoy study. Pretty soon, most people think that studying English in America is just a process of life.
